Japanese 3G Mobile Phone Penetration Rate Hits 45.6%

According to figures released by the Japanese Telecommunications Carriers Association (TCA), at the end of November 2005 Japan had 40.9 million 3G mobile phone subscribers, and the penetration rate of 3G handsets had reached 45.6%. The TCA also forecasted that in the first half of 2006 penetration rate will cross the 50% mark. Japan currently has three operators offering 3G services, including NTT DoCoMo with its FOMA service, Vodafone with W-CDMA, and KDDI with CDMA2000.
